His Excellency Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, received His Excellency Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, the D-8 Secretary-General and his delegation, in his office at the Ministry on 18 January 2022.

The Honourable Minister warmly welcomed Ambassador Isiaka A. Imam in his new capacity as the D-8 Secretary-General. The two interlocutors held very fruitful discussions in a friendly environment.

The Honourable Minister wished success to the Secretary-General in his new assignment and emphasized the high importance Türkiye attaches to the D-8 Organization. He assured of Türkiye’s  continued support and assistance to the organization and also emphasized the need to expand the membership of the D-8 to reach the desired objectives of the Organization.

On his part, the Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the Honourable Minister for the support and assistance of the Government of Türkiye to the D-8 Organization. He  expressed his happiness to be in Türkiye, following his appointment as the Secretary-General of the D-8

Organization. He  briefed the Honourable Minister of his plans for the organization,  during his tenure.

The meeting ended with the exchange of gifts and photo-session.

Earlier, the Secretary-General met His Excellency Faruk Kaymakçı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye and Her Excellency Ambassador Esen Altuğ, D-8 Commissioner of Turkiye.

Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam assumed the position of the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation on 01 January 2022. He is the fifth Secretary-General of the D-8.
