The D-8 Organization and the Organization of Turkic States forge multilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interests

The Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, and the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, expressed a shared commitment to forging closer cooperation in areas of their common interests. This was disclosed during a courtesy call by the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, on H.E. Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Istanbul on 3 Feb. 2023.

The visit to the Organization of Turkic States by the D-8 SG was to explore possible areas of cooperation potential between the two international bodies. The two leaders underlined the common areas of activity shared by both organizations as the defining factor for fostering multilateral cooperation between member states.

The two Secretaries General agreed to explore cooperation in the areas of Economy, Trade, Energy, Customs and Tourism, SME, and the Organized private sector, including the chambers of commerce of the two organizations. Cooperation will also be extended to exchanging information and sharing best practices in selective areas. At the same time, participation in training/capacity-building programs organized by either of the organizations was also recognized.

At the end of the visit, the two leaders agreed to explore the possibility of signing an MoU to formalize the envisaged cooperation between the two organizations. The MoU will be equipped with an Action Plan and a follow-up Mechanism for successful cooperation.
