The First D-8 Senior Experts Meeting on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was held virtually on 8th September, 2021, hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey. The Director (Administrative, Legal and Internal Issues) of the D-8, Mr. Ahmar Ismail represented the D-8 in the meeting along with other colleagues of the Secretariat.

Mr. Ismail, in his welcome remarks, emphasized the pivotal importance of science, technology and engineering in the activities of the D-8 Organization for the future economic growth and briefed the meeting regarding the activities and initiatives undertaken by the D-8 to accomplish the targets set by the leaders for reaching the desired economic growth goals.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives from the relevant Ministries and Authorities of the D-8 Member States on Information and Communication Technologies. During the meeting, the representatives of the Member States shared their experiences and success stories of their respected countries in the area of ICT such as 5G Technologies and Cyber Security systems. They all emphasized to promote substantial cooperation in ICT fields especially 5G Technologies and Cyber Security among D-8.

The meeting also discussed ‘Istanbul Declaration’ which shall be presented for its adoption in the 1st D-8 Ministerial Meeting on ICT which is scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 7th October, 2021.
