The D-8 Secretary-General, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari participated in the 4th ICCTME 2021 Virtual Conference as a keynote speaker on the theme: “Current Trends in the Middle East on Covid-19 Global Impacts”.
The conference was jointly organized by the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Ilam University of Iran, Namik Kemal University and Uskudar University of Turkey. It was organized in order to discuss and understand the current trends and share views and experiences amongst scholars from different universities and institutions of in the world as well as statesmen and international civil servants.
The participants discussed several issues regarding the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Middle East and outside of the region, in line with the rapid changes in the political, economic, educational and social spheres.
The event also witnessed research papers and articles from the universities of the D-8 Member States such as Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Turkey.
In his speech, the D-8 Secretary-General sensitized the meeting regarding the activities of the D-8 Organization, its Member States and their economic situations. He also explained the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the D-8 Member States and the difficulties encountered in the priority areas of cooperation of the D-8 Organization.
He also mentioned some of the projects and initiatives and positive steps taken by the D-8 Secretariat in various areas in order to mitigate the negative effects of the Covid-19 such as D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP), Cooperation with World Tourism Forum Institute on Tourism, D-8 Network of Pioneers for Research and Innovation (D-8 NPRI) and D-8 Digital Payment System (D-8P Card).
The conference continued with the presentations of the articles and papers of the scholars from different universities.
