Secretary-General of SMIIC paid a visit to D-8 Secretary-General

The Secretary-General of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), a subsidiary organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Ihsan Ovut paid a courtesy call on the D-8 Secretary-General, Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari on 30 March 2018 at the D-8 Secretariat. The SMIIC Secretary-General, who was accompanied by Mrs. Emel Gonc, was warmly received by the D-8 Secretary-General.
During the visit, the two Interlocutors exchanged views on a wide range of issues. These includes current status of halal standards and challenges in Muslim world and capacity building in the domain of standardization and metrology. They also discussed about the possibility of establishing institutional links between the two Organizations by singing an MoU.
The main mission of SMIIC is to develop harmonized standards and other relevant specific standards through voluntary standardization process in order to facilitate exchange of goods and services among member states targeting the uniformity in metrology and laboratory services, standardization, certification and accreditation activities supporting sustainable economic growth, within the frame of protecting health and environment and promoting innovation and ensuring safety.
