On the occasion of the 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the D-8 Secretary-General, Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari met Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, M.P, Hon’ble Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on 4th May 2018 in Dhaka.

The Foreign Minister congratulated the Secretary-General for his appointment as the new Secretary-General of D-8 and expressed confidence that his cognate experience and leadership qualities would help in advancing the D-8 agenda.

Ambassador Ku Jaafar expressed confidence that Bangladesh’s engagement with the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation would continue to be intensified and Bangladesh’s role as an esteemed member of the Organization would be expanded to a level that will contribute to deriving the maximum benefit from this forum for our peoples.

Later Ambassador Ku Jaafar met Md. Shahidul Haque, Hon’ble Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh and congratulated the Foreign Secretary for Bangladesh’s graduation from the status of least developed country (LDC) to a developing one. He intimated the Foreign Secretary of the latest developments taking place within the Organization particularly the Istanbul Declaration 2017 and D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action adopted at the 9th D-8 Summit held in October 2017 in Istanbul and informed that the Secretariat was working in full swing to implement the vision set by the Organization’s leaders. He sought his support in furthering the D-8 agenda in order to consolidate the partnership among the Member States. He also added that Bangladesh will be the host of the next D-8 Summit.

The Foreign Secretary thanked the Secretary-General for the update and assured him of full cooperation. He informed that Bangladesh as the founding member of the Organization remained committed and active in furthering the vision and objectives of the Organization in order to contribute to the upliftment of life and living standards of the peoples of the region.

Mr. Ambassador also met A.F.M. Gousal Azam Sarker, Hon’ble D-8 Commissioner of Bangladesh and discussed a wide range of issues.
