D-8 Secretary-General H.E. Dr. Seyed AliMohammad Mousavi called on Secretary-General of OIC H.E. Iyad Ameen Madani at the OIC Secretariat in Jeddah on Wednesday, 2 July 2014. 

Dr. Mousavi appreciated the role of OIC in promoting and upholding the brotherhood as an essential pre-requisite for the Muslim ummah. It may also be mentioned that all members of D-8 are also members of OIC, which gives a unique opportunity for close cooperation between the two Organizations. 

   

The two Secretaries General discussed various issues of common interest and agreed to consolidate efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two Organizations. They also reiterated the need to implement the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) already concluded between the OIC and the D-8.

 

Issues such as establishment of a formal mechanism for regular consultations, identification of areas whereby both the organizations can work together for possible joint studies, projects etc. were discussed during the meeting. 

Dr. Mousavi invited the Secretary-General to attend the upcoming D-8 Summit scheduled in Istanbul in December 2014.
