The D-8 Secretary-General, Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari attended the Opening Ceremony of the 34th Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) at Istanbul Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey on 28th November, 2018.

The Session commenced with the inauguration statement by the President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is the current chairman of the Organization. He expressed the crucial importance of unity as Muslim region grappling to cope with difficulties in order to achieve prosperity and economic sustainability among Muslim countries.

At the opening ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, delivered a statement and spoke about the need for unity of the Muslim world under the peace umbrella. Furthermore, ministers from Gabon, Indonesia and Qatar delivered statements on behalf of their regions regarding peace, unity and prosperity of Muslim countries.The Secretary-General also participated in the reception and family photo ceremony after the opening statements at the invitation of the Chairman of the COMCEC, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Secretary-General, Ambassador Ku Jaafar also had discussions with participants and representatives from other countries and organizations.
