We, the Commissioners of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8 Organization) from the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Malaysia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the Republic of Türkiye, gathered for our 46^th Session in Istanbul, Türkiye, on 15-16 February 2023, offered our deepest condolences to the people and Government of the Republic of Türkiye for the devastating earthquake that struck Türkiye and Syria on 6 February 2023.

We offered prayers and heartfelt condolences for the departed souls and also wished for the speedy recovery of those who were injured during the earthquake and extended our cooperation during these challenging times. Having witnessed the resilience of the Turkish people, we are confident that Türkiye will successfully move to the recovery and reconstruction phase.

We were encouraged by the demonstration of solidarity by the D-8 Member States in swiftly providing assistance for the disaster response and relief efforts being conducted by the Government of the Republic of Türkiye. We are also confident that the assistance provided would contribute towards emergency response and reconstruction in the affected regions.

Considering that natural disasters at a relatively massive scale happening in many of the D-8 Member States, we also agreed to explore the establishment of a D-8 disaster response and relief mechanism.
