The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation signed an MoU with the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS to set the framework of cooperation between the two organizations.
On 27 November 2020, H.E Ambassador Dato Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari the Secretary General of the D-8 Organization signed the MoU with Mr. Mamado Traore the Commissioner in the Department of Industry and Private Sector Promotion at ECOWAS Secretariat. The signing of the MoU took place in an official ceremony at the D-8 Headquarter in Istanbul.
Mr. Mamado Traore highlighted the Keenness of the ECOWAS to embark on implementing the MoU as soon as possible, and that they are looking forward to cooperating with the D-8 in the field of pharmaceutical industry, industrial upgrading and technology transfer as well as Agriculture and food security.
Ambassador Ku Jaafar stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experiences between the two organizations and he pointed out that they both have a lot to learn from each other. They agreed on organizing a visit by the D-8 to ECOWAS headquarter in Abuja in the first half of 2021 to discuss the implementation of the MoU and to meet with the technical experts in the areas of agriculture and industry.
