The D-8 Secretary-General, Dr. Seyed AliMohammad Mousavi paid a farewell visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E Dr. Mohammad Javad Zarif on 11th December, 2017 at the latter’s office in Tehran.

   

Dr. Mousavi commended the Islamic Republic of Iran for competently steering the affairs of the D-8 organization. He expressed gratitude to the country and its leader for the effective leadership, guidance and direction that it gave the organization when it held sway. He also appreciated Iran for graciously hosting innumerable meetings of the D-8 organization over the years. 

He further expressed confidence that Iran’s engagement with the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation would continue to be more intensive than ever before and Iran’s role as the esteemed member of the Organization would be expanded to a level that may contribute to gaining the maximum benefit from this forum for our peoples.

Furthermore, the Secretary General gave account of his stewardship over the last five years. Since assumption into the office of the Secretary-General, he has given special thrust to further extension of existing economic relations between our Member States. He also highlighted the various achievements recorded in the sectorial tracks, specially trade, agriculture, industry and transportation. 

Moreover, Mr. Mousavi expressed delight that the 9th D-8 Summit just held and adopted the Istanbul Declaration 2017 and the D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action in order to inject further dynamism into the pace of progress of the Organization. 

Dr. Zarif, the Minister, commended Dr. Mousavi, the outgoing Secretary General for the excellent job that he did during his tenure and wished him resounding success in his future endeavours. He also assured that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to play an active role in the D-8 Organization with a view to increasing the density of traffic between and amongst the Member States.
