D-8 Secretary General, Dr. Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, had a fruitful meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday, 8 October 2013 in Tehran, Iran.

During the Meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance role of the D-8 Organization of Economic Cooperation in taking a leading role in the expansion of South-South cooperation as well as stated that Iran is completely ready to develop all-out cooperation with the D-8 and actively attend its sessions. He further highlighted the importance of the D-8 role in promoting comprehensive cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade and technological fields. In addition, he also expressed hope that the D-8 would play a greater role in boosting regional and international cooperation by holding regular meetings at different levels, implementing agreements and drawing up proper plans. 

Responding to the Minister, the D-8 Secretary General briefed the Minister on a number of the Organization’s activities and plans and expressed that D-8 member countries are expected to develop their cooperation in diverse areas of collaboration. He further hoped that the D-8 countries would strengthen cooperation given their great potentials and human resources. In addition, he also invited the Minister to attend the next meeting of D-8 Foreign Ministers, which will be held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
