D-8 enhanced its fertilizer cooperation through private sector collaboration

Malaysia hosted the 3rd Ad Hoc Meeting to Consider the Formation of D-8 Fertilizer Association (D8FA) on 9-10 October 2014 in Kuala Lumpur. Participants from Bangladesh, Iran and Malaysia fertilizer stakeholders of the D-8 member states attended the 2-day meeting. For many developing countries in the world, including D-8 as one of economic grouping, fertilizer availability and affordability are critical to increasing agriculture production. 
Taking into account the progressing of fertilizer utilization and awareness of the food system transformation in D-8 countries, this meeting underscored the needs of strengthening and energizing collective efforts in private sector level to achieve self-reliance and self-sufficiency at the D-8 national level in production, distribution and trade of fertilizer.
The objective of the event was to engage fertilizer stakeholder from private sector entity with more good practices and collaboration so that the industry could provide a good start for the further development of fertilizer sector. 
The Meeting explored opportunities at private sector level as well as expand connections and cooperation, including promoting the establishment of a joint management body of D8FA, initiating a comprehensive business plan for further cooperation, starting business-to-business (B2B) collaboration among D-8 countries, utilizing the D8FA website for sharing information as well as the appointment of national Focal Point for D8FA.
