The Secretary General of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, today Friday 24 June ,2022 received in his office in Istanbul a group of Junior diplomats from D-8 member countries who have been participating in a week-long training program in the Republic of Turkiye.
Welcoming the participants to the D-8 Secretariat, Ambassador Imam thanked them for the visit and urged them to put to practice what they were taught during the week-long training program. He underscored the importance of training and capacity building to the career of diplomats, adding that the art of diplomacy covered vast areas of knowledge which includes, history, politics, geography, economics, cultures and other spheres of life, which would require diplomats to continue to update their knowledge if they wanted to reach the pinnacle of their chosen profession.
The Secretary General assured the trainees that his organization was fully determined and committed to encourage human capacity building development of those who will manage critical institutions in D-8 member countries.
While expressing his utmost gratitude to the Turkish Diplomacy Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye for organizing the training which he said would enhance the capacity of the young diplomats and broaden their knowledge, Ambassador Imam added that efforts would be made to institutionalize this training in the Organization.
The week-long training program taught courses on diplomatic skills such as, protocol and negotiation, and topical issues like global impact of COVID-19 on international trade and economic diplomacy, impact of social media on diplomatic practices and international commercial diplomacy. The junior diplomats training program is being held as part of the activities to mark the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the establishment of D- 8 Organization.
