The 40th session of the D-8 Commission was held in Istanbul from 27-28 June 2018 under the competent Chairmanship of the Republic of Turkey. Commissioners and Heads of delegation from all the D-8 Member States took part in the two-day event. This is the first session of the Commission after the 9th D-8 Summit that was held in October 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Commission discussed the decisions of the 9th Summit of the Organization as encapsulated in the Istanbul Declaration 2017 and the D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action. These include: • Terms of Reference for the Project Support Fund • Modalities for the Establishment of D-8 Research Center • D-8 Clearing House • D-8 University • Comprehensive Strategy on Tourism • Enhancing the Cooperation in Science, Technology and Research among D-8 Countries • Strategies for Revitalizing the Working Groups • Developments in priority areas of cooperation • D-8 Draft Decennial Road Map for 2020-2030 • Strengthening the D-8 Secretariat • Decision-making Mechanisms to Permit Prompt Response to the Challenges of the New Century • New Partnerships and Permitting the Accession of New Members in to the Organization • Agenda for the Council of Ministers meeting to be held in October 2018
The Commission launched the new website of the D-8 Organization. (www.developing8.org). A delegation from Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) presented a comprehensive draft strategic roadmap of D-8 FCCI. A delegation from KOMEPS FINTECH of Malaysia presented a project proposal on D-8 Payment Card. KOMEPS is working on a payment mechanism for the D-8 Member States which would offer the citizens, business community of the D-8 in particular, alternative choice of financial transactions. The Commission is the Executive body of the D-8 Organization. It meets twice a year in accordance with the provisions of the D-8 Charter. It is presided over by the Chairman-in-Office.
