19th Session of D-8 Council of Ministers held virtually on 7 April 2021

The 19th meeting of D-8 Council of  Ministers took place on 7 April 2021 virtually. H.E. Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh chaired the meeting and Foreign Ministers and delegations from all the D-8 Member States participated in it.

The Foreign Ministers of the D-8 Member States proposed to create a D-8 digital marketplace as well as a suitable-for-all resilient post-pandemic cooperation model to take care of the common interests of all member states. They also stressed the importance of multilateralism and cooperation during difficult pandemic times. Moreover, they pointed out that technology and youth are the two major transformative forces of the new era, adding that it is necessary to benefit from the potentials of young people, who are the source of dynamism, innovation and creative ideas and to keep up with advanced technologies.
The meeting reviewed and discussed the latest and most important developments that occured within the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8).

The Council recommended the draft Dhaka Declaration 2021 and Decennial Roadmap 2020-2030 for the consideration of and adoption by the 10th D-8 Summit.
It also welcomed the nomination of the next Secretary-General of the Organization in the person of Ambassador Isiaka Abdulkadir Imam by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Council also considered and adopted the Secretariat initiatives such as D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme (D-8 HSP), D-8 Network of Pioneers for Research and Innovation (D-8 NPRI) and D-8 Designated Airports. Furthermore, the Council also noted and welcomed the private sector initiatives such as D-8 Payment Card, D-8 Special Economic Zones and D-8 Creative Economy and Financial Center (D-8 CEFC).
