Statement by the D-8 Secretary-General on the recent Attack against the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus

On behalf of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), its Secretary General, wishes to express in strongest terms the condemnation of the Israeli attack on the diplomatic building of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Syria on 2 April, 2024.
This latest attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission, no doubt, is a blatant violation of all norms of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations as well as the diplomatic and consular immunity as enshrined in the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

The Secretary General wishes to further appeal to all parties to explore the process of dialogue and negotiation in ensuring a lasting peace for the overall well-being of the people in the region.

Finally, the Secretary General commiserates with the families of the Iranian diplomats, who may have suffered losses as a result of this attack. He prays to Almighty Allah in His mercy to comfort them and give them the fortitude to bear the losses.
