Dr. Seyed AliMohammad Mousavi, the D-8 Secretary-General, called on Ambassador Sedat Önal, D-8 Commissioner and Deputy Undersecretary for the Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey at the latter’s office on 03 February 2017. 

The two interlocutors held a very fruitful and effective discussion in a cordial environment. Dr. Mousavi congratulated Mr. Önal on his appointment as the D-8 Commissioner and expressed confidence that his versatile and dynamic leadership would help achieve D-8 agenda. 

The D-8 Secretary-General reiterated his confidence that Turkey’s engagement with the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation would continue to be more intensive than ever before and Turkey’s role as the founding member of the Organization would be expanded to a level that may contribute to gaining the maximum benefit from this forum for our peoples.

Dr. Mousavi informed the Commissioner of the latest developments taking place within the Organization and conveyed that the Secretariat was working in full swing to implement the vision set by the Organization’s leaders. He sought his support in furthering the common agenda to consolidate the partnership among the Member States. 

Commissioner Önal thanked the D-8 Secretary-General for the update and assured him of all cooperation. He informed that Turkey as the founding member of the Organization remained committed and active in furthering the vision and objectives of the Organization in order to contribute to the uplift of life and living standards of the peoples of the region. He underscored the need for new impetus in order to put the Organization to a new height with its expanded vision. He appreciated the active role of the Secretary-General and commended his efforts in furthering the agenda of the Organization for the common benefit of the peoples.    

They discussed, among others, the issue of 9th Summit. The Commissioner informed that the Ministry was working with other stakeholders in the government on the issue of 9th Summit in Turkey; he hoped that the date of the Summit would be announced by Turkey soon.
