4th D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Industry began today

The D-8 Secretary General attended the 4th D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Industry on 26 January 2015 in Tehran, Iran. 
Dr. Mousavi expressed his appreciation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially to the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran for hosting and organizing very important meeting. 
Dr. Mousavi conveyed that the Industrial sector plays critical role in all our societies – both developed and developing. In D-8, the industrial production contributed for around 40% to GDP at the end of 2013. In this regard, it is expected that D-8 industrial activity would achieve a 35% annualized pace.  This also indicates a significant level of contribution by the industry sector to the total GDP.
Dr. Mousavi expressed that there is a need for the strategic assessment, analysis and review of the state of D-8 Industrial cooperation, with particular emphasis on the identification of problems and bottlenecks, and the development of remedial approaches, policies and measures in Task Forces, towards a real, meaningful and tangible cooperation and to come out with concrete and viable project proposal and later on their feasibility studies.
Dr. Mousavi concluded his statement by emphazing that the D-8 Member States, both the governments and private sectors, need to create the right condition and institutional frameworks as a foundation upon which to encourage investment, innovation, and economic growth. Furthermore, the D-8 FCCI needs to play greater role to enhance private sector cooperation among the D-8 Member States which will lead to increase in economic growth, enhance development cooperation and social welfare in the D-8 Member States
