Iranian Envoy Seeks Greater Cooperation Among D8 News Agencies

24 October 2014, Istanbul-Turkey
Mr Saeed Koozechi, the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, on Tuesday called for greater cooperation among news agencies from the Developing 8 (D8) countries to boost economic and trade ties.
Koozechi made the call when he visited the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ima Niboro, in Abuja.
The ambassador formally informed the managing director that the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) would host D-8 News Agencies Forum in Tehran from Nov. 12 to Nov. 14.
The D-8 countries are Nigeria, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Turkey.
According to him, Iranian Government will support media cooperation between NAN and IRNA to boost the over 40-year friendly ties between both countries.
“The D-8 countries have over 1 billion people with vast resources and I think the organisations create a good opportunity to boost the necessary partnership with all countries, especially Nigeria.
“I am sure that through the summit both countries can enhance bilateral cooperation,’’ Koozechi said.
Responding, Niboro thanked the ambassador for the visit and expressed the desire of NAN to partner with its Iranian counterpart.
“ The D-8 is a good organisation, which focused on developing their countries’ economy and that is what the President Goodluck Jonathan administration is all about.
“We are also ready to partner with the Iranian news agency and NAN is in the process of expanding its foreign operations.
“Iran is a place where we will like to have a correspondent and I hope to attend the upcoming D-8 summit in order to meet with my Iranian counterpart,” Niboro said. (NAN)
