D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held on 25 September 2014

The meeting of D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers took place in the sideline of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA on 25 September 2014 at the UN Headquarters. Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Security and Foreign Affairs chaired the meeting and delegations from all the D-8 Member States were present. 
The meeting reviewed and discussed the latest and most important developments held within the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) as well as the short and long term goals, objectives and strategic course of action.
The meeting discussed, among others, future D-8 external relations subsequent to the Observer Status in the UNGA, outcome of the D-8 Eminent Persons Group (EPG) process and the 9th D-8 Summit. The D-8 Secretary-General presented the report of the EPG to the Council. He also apprised the Ministers of the latest developments on the upcoming 9th Summit scheduled in December 2014 in Turkey.
The Council took note of the important fact that with the completion of the first phase of its life-cycle by the 9th Summit in 2014 in Turkey, the second phase of the Organization will be a turning point to take the common agenda forward in a manner commensurate with the requirements for developments and the pace of change taking place within individual member states and the Organization as a whole. They discussed the best pursuit for the Organization for a smooth shift from its current state of a ‘Policy coordinating body’ to a mix of ‘Policy coordination & Project implementation’, in line with the Charter, the Roadmap of 2008-2018 and the Global Vision. 
The Council discussed on the Summit and stressed on the high importance for confirmation of the date and venue of the Summit to ensure maximum participation at the highest level. They agreed that a special Commission Meeting should be convened in Islamabad in the coming month before Summit to discuss the Summit outcome documents and other Summit related issues.
