Visa policies are among the most important governmental policies influencing international trade, business travel and tourism sector. In this regard, Turkey hosted D-8 workshop on information technologies on 16-17 April 2014 in Ankara, Turkey.

The workshop was meant to promote electronic visa (e-visa) application systems as well as information technologies applications, including visa application system, amongst D-8 Member States. It was expected that Member States might initiate a fruitful collaborative opportunities among the foreign ministries in information technology.

The workshop was also highlight the importance of the ability of modern technology to achieve core visa functions such as security, immigration control, and revenue generation through use of real-time information, monitoring capabilities, and ability to redirect resources to likely security risks.
